Midfield maestro takes Greene King honours again after bossing 5–1 win over NW London
Blue Gallagher made it back-to-back Greene King Level Head Man of the Match awards on Saturday as another outstanding midfield display helped Hoddesdon Town sweep aside NW London 5–1 at Lowfield.
Gallagher had collected the award following last weekend’s 4–0 Herts Senior Centenary Trophy victory over Allenburys Sports, and seven days later he was once again the player chosen to take the honours after producing another hugely influential performance at the heart of Simon Riddle’s side.

The achievement was made even more impressive by the fact that Connor Bolton helped himself to a hat-trick during another emphatic Lilywhites victory. Bolton struck after just two minutes, added his second on 31 and completed his treble deep into stoppage time, while Connor Casey and Jonah Evans were also on target, yet Gallagher’s grip on the contest was such that he still emerged as the standout performer.
Wearing number eight and operating in the heart of midfield, Blue seemed to be involved in everything Hoddesdon did well. He continually demanded possession, dictated the tempo and moved the ball quickly into dangerous areas, while his willingness to step forward meant NW London were rarely given an opportunity to settle in midfield. Whenever the visitors threatened to break, Gallagher was there competing for possession; whenever Town regained the ball, he was invariably involved in turning defence into another attack.
It was the attacking side of his performance that particularly caught the eye. Gallagher constantly found pockets of space between the visitors’ midfield and defence, linked play intelligently and helped keep NW London pinned back for long periods, with Hoddesdon’s movement and intensity eventually proving far too much for the visitors to contain. His influence may not show up alongside Bolton’s three goals on the scoresheet, but it was a performance that demonstrated exactly why he has become such an important part of this team.

Blue Was Everywhere
Chairman Stuart Varney, who presented Blue with the award after the final whistle, felt the decision reflected just how complete his performance had been. “When somebody scores a hat-trick and somebody else still gets Man of the Match, that probably tells you everything about how well Blue played,” said Varney. “He controlled the middle of the pitch, he was constantly looking to make things happen and every time we seemed to build another attack he was somewhere involved in it. He has been incredibly consistent for us this season and today was another example of the standards he is setting.”

For Gallagher, the second successive award is further recognition of a season in which his importance to the Lilywhites has continued to grow. Having been excellent against Allenburys a week earlier, scoring a superb goal and providing dangerous delivery from set pieces, he followed that performance with another display full of energy, quality and authority against NW London. He has become one of the first names on the team sheet and, as Hoddesdon continue their battle at the top of the First Division South, that consistency is proving every bit as valuable as the eye-catching moments.

It Was Blue's Second Man Of The Match Award In A Row, After Winning It Last Saturday v Allenburys Sports
Blue was delighted with the way he was able to influence Saturday’s contest. “I felt really sharp today and I enjoyed being able to get on the ball so much,” he said. “When the lads around you are moving well and giving you options, you can play quickly and keep the opposition under pressure. I like being involved in everything, whether that’s winning it back, starting attacks or getting further forward, and I thought we had a really good rhythm for long spells. To get recognised two weeks running is something I’m proud of because I want to be producing that level every Saturday.”

The victory moved Hoddesdon onto 38 points from 14 league matches, with 12 wins and two draws keeping the Lilywhites unbeaten and top of the First Division South. There remains plenty of football ahead, but Gallagher’s form is becoming one of the defining features of a season that continues to gather momentum and offers the possibility of becoming a very memorable one at Lowfield.

Hoddesdon Town FC would once again like to thank Greene King for their continued support of the club’s Man of the Match award and, of course, their excellent Level Head IPA. Congratulations to Blue Gallagher — two games, two awards and another midfield masterclass.
