Friday Night Lights: Dunmow Town to Groundshare at Lowfield for 2025/26 Season
Hoddesdon Town FC are delighted to confirm that fellow Eastern Counties League Division One South side Dunmow Town will be playing their home games at Lowfield this coming season, following a successful groundshare agreement between the two clubs.
In what is being hailed as a landmark partnership for non-league football in the area, Dunmow Town will bring Friday night football to Lowfield, meaning there is even more action on offer for football fans in Hoddesdon this season. The majority of their home fixtures will take place under the lights on Friday evenings, creating a brand-new matchday experience for both sets of supporters and beyond.
Dunmow Town, a club based in Great Dunmow, Essex, were previously groundsharing at Catons Lane, the home of Saffron Walden Town. However, that arrangement concluded at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, leaving the ambitious outfit in search of a new place to call home. Now, thanks to a forward-thinking agreement with Hoddesdon Town, they have secured a base at Lowfield for the duration of the 2025/26 season – and possibly beyond.
This move not only ensures the continuation of Dunmow’s progress within the Eastern Counties League, but also provides football fans in the Hoddesdon area with more opportunities to enjoy the beautiful game in a vibrant, welcoming setting.
A Club on the Rise
Formed in June 2020, Dunmow Town Football Club began their journey in the Essex and Suffolk Border League. After catching the eye with some eye-catching performances and strong league finishes, they were promoted to Step 6 in 2023, gaining admission to the Eastern Counties League Division One South.
The club’s journey through the non-league pyramid has included various groundsharing arrangements, reflecting their rapid rise and commitment to progressing despite not yet having a permanent ground of their own. They started by playing at Braintree Town’s Cressing Road, before moving to Heybridge Swifts’ Scraley Road in 2022. Their most recent home was Catons Lane in Saffron Walden, but after the expiration of that deal, Dunmow were once again on the hunt.
Cue Lowfield.
The historic ground, steeped in footballing tradition and boasting excellent playing and clubhouse facilities, is the perfect venue for a club with big ambitions and a loyal following. With Dunmow continuing to establish themselves at Step 6 and Hoddesdon looking to climb the table themselves this season, the two clubs will now share more than just league status – they’ll share the pitch.
A Competitive League, A New Rivalry
With both Hoddesdon and Dunmow plying their trade in the same division, there will be plenty of mutual interest in each other’s fortunes throughout the campaign. Last season, Dunmow Town finished 12th in the Eastern Counties Division One South, securing 47 points from their 38 games.
Their record for the 2024/25 season reads:
Played: 38
Their campaign was marked by some thrilling attacking displays, particularly from star striker Darnell Fuller, who netted an outstanding 32 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions. Fuller’s eye for goal became a regular talking point around the league, and supporters at Lowfield will be treated to his talents on home turf – albeit in royal blue rather than the white of Hoddesdon.
For the Lilywhites, who themselves ended last season in 8th place with 59 points, the partnership adds a new layer of football to the local calendar. Fans could find themselves enjoying Hoddesdon matches on Saturdays and also heading to Lowfield for a Dunmow game on a Friday – a full weekend of football without leaving town.
More Football, More Perks
Hoddesdon Town FC’s progressive “Lowfield365” scheme – which offers discounts and benefits to supporters who join the programme – will also extend some of its perks to Dunmow matchdays.
Lowfield365 members can enjoy up to 20% off drinks at the bar on matchdays, whether it’s Hoddesdon Town on a Saturday or Dunmow Town lighting up a Friday night under the floodlights. Fans who want to sign up for Lowfield365 can do so via the official club website, unlocking exclusive discounts, rewards, and opportunities to be more involved with the club community.
With both clubs now sharing the ground, there’s an even stronger incentive to be part of the Lowfield365 family and support local football.
Chairman’s Reaction
Hoddesdon Town chairman Stuart Varney spoke positively about the deal, highlighting the mutual benefits:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Dunmow Town to Lowfield for the 2025/26 season. They’re a club on the up, well run, ambitious, and determined to progress. We’re confident they’ll be a good fit here and we’re excited to see even more football being played at our ground.
“Friday night games bring a whole new atmosphere, and we think it’ll be something the local community really embraces. It gives people the chance to start the weekend with a game under the lights, and that’s always special. From our point of view, the additional activity and footfall helps sustain the club’s operations and increases engagement across the board.”
Fixtures to Watch
The Eastern Counties League fixture list will of course bring an intriguing date to the calendar: Hoddesdon Town vs Dunmow Town at Lowfield, with the ‘away’ side playing at their shared home. It promises to be a unique fixture, with fans of both clubs likely to attend in strong numbers for what will be a fascinating battle.
Outside of that match-up, Dunmow’s games will mostly take place on Friday nights, with the exact fixture dates and kickoff times to be confirmed in due course. Both clubs will communicate these via their websites and social media platforms.
More Than Just Football
The presence of two Step 6 clubs sharing a ground is a rare and welcome sight in the non-league pyramid, especially when both are run by passionate volunteers and community figures. The agreement speaks volumes about the collaborative spirit that exists in the grassroots game and the recognition that sharing resources can be mutually beneficial.
From a Hoddesdon perspective, the partnership enhances the club’s community footprint. More matchdays mean more people coming through the gates and more opportunities to introduce new fans to the club’s values and traditions.
It also gives Hoddesdon the opportunity to strengthen its status as a hub for football in the region. Whether it’s a midweek cup tie, a Saturday afternoon league game, or a buzzing Friday night showdown, Lowfield will be alive with activity in the coming months – a true 365-day venue.
Join the Journey
Supporters of both clubs – and local football fans in general – are encouraged to make the most of this exciting new chapter. With two competitive sides sharing the ground and fixtures being staggered across the week, Lowfield is set to be one of the busiest and most entertaining venues in the county this season.
If you’re a Hoddesdon fan, a Dunmow follower, or simply a football enthusiast in the area, there’s never been a better time to get involved. Sign up for Lowfield365, follow both clubs on social media, and keep an eye on the fixture announcements – there’s a season full of football ahead.
