Hoddesdon Towns' yo-yo season rolls on this coming Saturday as they travel to 10th placed Clapton.
Inconsistency has been the name of the game for the Lilywhites this season and all eyes will be on the Terence McMillan Stadium as the lads pick themselves up from a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Wormley this past Tuesday and look to begin a new run of good form.
Based in East London, Clapton FC is affiliated to the London Football Association and the Football Association. The club was established in 1878 and until 2019 was based at the Old Spotted Dog Ground in Upton Lane. Since 2020, 'The Tons' have a new football home at The Terence McMillan Stadium in Plaistow.
Our hosts have amassed 26 points from 19 games this season, with 8 wins, 2 draws and 9 losses. From their 9 home games, they have won 6 and lost 3, without a single drawn game on their home record, scoring 17 and conceding 20. Hoddesdon have to be wary of a team in form though, having played 6 games in November, winning all but one, a 3-0 away loss to Forest Hill Park in the London Senior Trophy. This leaves them in second place in the form table, behind Wormley Rovers. Last time out, Clapton recorded an impressive 3-2 home win against title chasing Cannons Wood this past Wednesday, with Erald Desa climbing off the subs bench to notch twice and win the game for the Tons.
Akiljo Balliu sits atop of the goalscoring charts for the club, with 5 goals in 15 appearances. Clapton do tend to share the goals around within their squad, with no less than 20 different players having found the back of the net this season, from a staggering SEVENTY TWO players used! Recent form however shows they may be more settled now and performing well with a consistent squad.
For Hoddesdon, we currently sit in 18th place, just 1 point above the drop zone and wins are starting to become imperative. An away trip brings hope, in so much as that 4 wins from 5 this season have come away from home, with 20 goals scored in 9 away games.
New signing Dion Laughton continues to impress, as does Bailey Eden. The latter hasn't started a league game for the club yet, but in his 7 apperances from the bench, many supporters have seen encouraging things. Of Hoddesdons sixteen different goalscorers this season, Bolton still leads the way with 6, followed by Blackwood, Filip, Galya and Riddle, all on 3.
Kick Off is 3pm and all travelling support is welcome.
