It has been an agonising wait for Riddles men to put right the wrongs of their last outing, a 6-1 defeat away to Hackney Wick, with last Tuesdays away game v Brimsdown and the weekends home tie against Hutton, both falling foul of the weather. Lowfield was hit particularly hard at the end of last week, and by Saturday morning, the pitch was deemed unplayable by the match referee and the game was postponed at 11am. With a dry 72 hours in between, it is hoped that the playing surface will be ready and waiting to host two teams at opposite ends of the table.
Whilst Hoddesdon are way behind in terms of games played this season, with up to 5 games in hand over some of their nearest rivals (and 7 games in hand in over a couple of teams near the top!), the table currently makes for grim reading, with the Lilywhites squarely rooted to the foot of the Thurlow Nunn Division 1 South. Tuesday night will be an opportunity to start pulling away from that position and make some progress up the ladder.
Our visitors, Cannons Wood, currently sit in 6th place in the table, having played 16, won 10, drawn 3 and lost 3. Their away record reads as played 7, won 4, drawn 2 and just the single defeat, away to Dunmow Town on the 6th of September. They average two goals a game on their travels, with 14 scored in 7 away games, whilst conceding 8 goals. The Aveley based side appear to be fairly comfortable on the road so Hoddesdon know they will be in for tough day at the office. Formed in 2019 by Chairman Liam Goodenough, better known by many as DT, former 'pundit' for YouTube channel AFTV, Cannons Wood underwent a rebranding last year and had their application for step 6 football accepted by the FA for the 2023/24 season. The name originates from the nearby Canons Brook estate in Harlow.
Reece Simpson will be of particular interest to the Hoddesdon defence, with 8 goals in 19 appearances for the club so far this season. However, Cannons Wood have more than one goalscorer in their ranks, and Harry Brown, Daniel Jones and Tyreece Robertson all have 6 goals to their name too. Amongst the notable stats, our visitors have no less than 34 yellow cards on their crime sheet, as well as two red, so Simon Riddle will have to make sure that none of his players get involved with any petulance or discipline issues.
For the home team, Connor Bolton leads the way with 6 goals to his name and supporters will be hoping to see him add to that tally, with Gayla and Blackwood also looking to improve on their 3 goals for the campaign so far.
Kick Off is 7:45pm and the clubhouse bar and tea bar will be open, serving hot and cold refreshments.
