This coming Saturday see's the first of our pre season fixtures get underway and it will be good to get a sneak peak of how the squad is shaping up.
It is always difficult to get a good read of the side at this stage, as it's very early days and as I write this, I am sure there will be people away on holiday, new signings still to be confirmed and a whole host of personnel changes to be made before the league kicks off proper on the 27th of July, away to Coggeshall. But just to see the lads back in the famous white shirt, will surely get the mouth watering for the upcoming campaign.
Whilst I have no squad news to bring you currently, that doesn't mean that manager Simon Riddle hasn't been busy making preparations for the new season. Far from it. I have heard one or two whispers about new recruits, as well as players that have signed on for another season, but we will bring you news of all of that once it has been confirmed by the gaffer. A push at a play off place this season will surely be on the agenda, as well as mirroring the good cup runs we had last year, ending with victory in the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy.
Our hosts, London Colney, will be plying their trade this season in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One following lateral movement from the Combined Counties Football League Division One. They finished second bottom last season with a record of played 42, won 7, drawn 9, lost 26, a goal difference of -33 and ending the campaign with 30 points. The Hertfordshire based side will hope to improve on that record this season, as they return to their old stomping ground of the Spartan South Midlands League. Not much is known about the club and it's current management and squad due to a lack of information on their website and social media channels but we always enjoyed a good relationship with "The Blueboys" back in our Spartan League days and it will be good to catch up with the team and their officials at their Cotlandswick base this weekend.
Kick Off is 3pm.
Enjoy the game.
