After the weekends brilliant 4-1 win away in the league over Enfield Borough, Hoddesdon turn their attention to cup football on Tuesday evening as they play Hertford Heath FC at The Recreation Ground.
PLEASE NOTE THIS GAME IS BEING PLAYED AT ST MARGARETSBURY FC AND KICK OFF IS 7:30PM
Simon Riddle will be aware of a potential banana skin against lower ranked opposition, with Hertford Heath plying their trade in the Herts Senior County Premier Division at Step 7. Our opponents currently sit 5th in that league having played 13, won 7, drawn 4 and just the two league losses on their record.
Jamie Marshall is in fine form this season with 17 goals in 14 appearances this season and Hoddesdon will have to be on their guard against the danger man. Former Lilywhite Conner Tokely may also be part of what is quite clearly a talented group of players which includes Adam Baylis and Liam Smith, who were both on the score sheet this weekend just gone.
Having beaten Sarrat First Team on 4-1 on penalties in the previous round after a 2-2 draw, our hosts will be keen to progress further in this competition. Last time out,Hertford Heath secured a 2-2 draw in the league at the weekend, with the King George Playing Fields playing hosts to their away game v Cuffley Seniors. In fact, Hertford Heath seem to be the draw specialists lately, with their last 4 games ending in stalemate.
Hoddesdon themsleves are in buoyant mood after this weekends thrilling 4-1 win at Enfield Brough and many will be wondering if Dion Laughtons debut double is the dawn of a new goalscoring hero at the club. It was an impressive display from the new signing, with his first goal for the club being registered after just 48 seconds. Connor Bolton played a great ball into the path of Laughton, who delicately chipped it over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the empty net.
On the subject of doubles, it was also great to see Jack Riddle grabbing two goals for the club, belying his centre half credentials and getting up the pitch to help the cause!
With the fight to carry on climbing the league table on hold, cup football and progression in this competition provides a different but exciting challenge for the Lilywhites and fingers crossed for a safe path to the next round.
Another reminder that this game kicks off at 7:30pm at the home of St Margaretsbury FC.
Come On You Lilywhites!!
