PETER HAYNES - A TRIBUTE

Hoddesdon President Remembered

'He was an inspiration to so many and well known for his charitable work...'
- Roger Merton - Vice Chairman

Peter William Haynes 11th June 1934 – 31st July 2025

Peter Haynes died shortly after his 91st birthday on 31st July 2025 after a short illness.
Peter was a larger than life character, a corner stone of Hoddesdon life and a true friend to so many who will be grieving with his widow Sandra and three sons Chris, Nick and Tim.

In his business life, he owned and ran Paul Wallace (Estate Agents). Through his business
dealings, he gained a fantastic reputation, second to none, and it is sad to think he will
no longer be around for advice and much more.

Peter was renowned for his love of smart jackets, fast cars, trains and all things steam. Peter was a great Rotarian for almost 54 years and was twice President of the Rotary Club of
Hoddesdon. Peter was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, recognition of ‘Service Above Self'.

He was a inspiration to so many and well known for his charitable work.

Peter was Hoddesdon Town FC’s longest serving President (40 years over two spells, the last being from 1990 – 35 years continuously). He was frequently to be seen at Lowfield in his cap and camel-coloured coat and is pictured above with Club Captain, Jack Gibbs at a recent awards ceremony at the club.

Peter will be missed by everyone who had the fortune to come into contact with him. Our
thoughts are with his family.

Peter’s funeral will be at Woollensbrook Cemetery & Crematorium, Hertford Road, EN11 9BN on Tuesday August 12th. 2025 at 10.00am followed by a reception at Brickendon Grange Golf Club, SG13 8PD

Our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Sandra, Chris, Nick and Tim.
