PAY WHAT YOU WANT, PINTS ON US & NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL AT ITS BEST – HODDESDON TOWN CELEBRATE NON-LEAGUE DAY IN STYLE AT LOWFIELD

Hoddesdon Town Football Club are gearing up for one of the most enjoyable dates in the football calendar this coming Saturday, 28th March 2026, as Lowfield plays host to a special Non-League Day celebration — and supporters can expect an afternoon packed with football, atmosphere, community spirit, and a couple of brilliant incentives to get everyone through the gates.

With a 3pm kick-off against high-flying Coggeshall Town, the club have announced two fantastic initiatives for the day. Firstly, supporters will be able to pay what they want at the turnstile, and secondly, thanks to the generosity of club sponsors Greene King Brewery, the first 100 adult supporters through the gate will receive a free pint of Level Head IPA to enjoy in the clubhouse.

It promises to be a proper Non-League Day occasion — affordable, welcoming, and full of the unique character that makes football at this level so special.

WHAT IS NON-LEAGUE DAY?

For those unfamiliar with the concept, Non-League Day is a nationwide celebration of football outside the professional leagues, designed to encourage supporters of Premier League and EFL clubs to experience the game at grassroots and semi-professional level.

The idea was first suggested in 2010 by football fan James Doe, who recognised that there were weekends in the football calendar when top-flight clubs were not playing due to international fixtures. With Premier League and Championship players away on international duty, Doe proposed that this would be the perfect opportunity for fans to visit their local non-league club instead.

The concept quickly gathered momentum and has since grown into one of the most popular community-driven events in English football.

Non-League Day is run as a non-profit, volunteer-led initiative, and over the years it has received backing from the Premier League, the Football League, the Football Association, MPs, charities, media organisations and hundreds of clubs across the country.

For non-league clubs, the day offers a chance to showcase what makes local football so special — the close connection between players and supporters, the welcoming atmosphere, affordable prices, and the sense that everyone involved is part of the same community. Many clubs use the day to offer reduced admission, family deals, or special promotions, all with the aim of bringing new supporters through the gates and giving them a taste of football outside the top tiers.

At Hoddesdon Town, the aim is exactly the same — open the doors wide, make everyone welcome, and put on a day to remember at Lowfield.

PAY WHAT YOU WANT AT THE GATE

The first of Hoddesdon’s Non-League Day initiatives is as simple as it is generous.

On Saturday, supporters will be able to pay whatever they want at the turnstile. There is no set admission price for the game — instead, fans can contribute whatever they feel they can afford, or whatever they believe the experience is worth. It’s a gesture designed to make sure that nobody is priced out of attending, and to encourage anyone who has never visited Lowfield before to come along and see what non-league football is all about.

Whether you are a regular supporter, a groundhopper, a fan of another club with a free Saturday, or just someone looking for something different to do, the message from Hoddesdon Town is clear: Come along, enjoy the day, and pay what you can.

FREE PINTS THANKS TO GREENE KING

As if that wasn’t enough, the club are also delighted to confirm a second special offer for the day, made possible thanks to the continued support of club sponsors Greene King Brewery.

The first 100 adult supporters through the turnstiles will receive a voucher that can be exchanged in the clubhouse for a free pint of Greene King Level Head IPA. Level Head has become a familiar sight at Lowfield over the past few seasons, not only on the bar but also as the sponsor of the club’s Man of the Match award, and Greene King’s backing once again ensures that Non-League Day will be celebrated in proper style.

There are a few important details supporters should note:

  • Vouchers will be handed out at the turnstile to adults upon entry
  • Only the first 100 adults admitted will receive a voucher
  • When the 100 vouchers are gone, they are gone
  • Each voucher can only be exchanged for one pint of Level Head IPA
  • The voucher is not transferable and has no cash value
  • The voucher cannot be exchanged for a different product
  • The voucher can only be redeemed at the bar inside the clubhouse

The club would like to place on record its thanks to Greene King for their continued generosity and support, which helps make days like this possible.

FOOTBALL FIRST — COGGESHALL TOWN VISIT LOWFIELD

While the off-the-field festivities promise plenty of enjoyment, at the heart of the day is of course the football itself.

Hoddesdon Town welcome Coggeshall Town to Lowfield for a 3pm kick-off in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Division One South, with the visitors currently sitting third in the table and firmly in the promotion race. Coggeshall arrive in strong form and will provide a stern test for the Lilywhites, but Non-League Day fixtures are rarely predictable, and Lowfield has seen plenty of memorable afternoons over the years.

With a bigger-than-usual crowd expected and the atmosphere sure to be lively, the stage is set for a proper non-league encounter — competitive, passionate, and played in front of supporters who are right on top of the action. For many visitors, it may be their first taste of football at this level, and the club are determined to show exactly why non-league football continues to thrive.

A FULL DAY AT LOWFIELD

Supporters are encouraged to make an afternoon of it, with the gates opening at 1pm and plenty going on before kick-off.

The clubhouse bar will be open throughout the day, with big screen TVs showing live sport, and as always, Lowfield365 members will be able to enjoy up to 20% off their round at the bar. Lowfield365 continues to offer outstanding value for supporters of both the football and cricket clubs, with discounts available all year round whenever the bar is open.

With the weather improving and the season entering its final stages, Non-League Day provides the perfect excuse to get out, meet friends, and enjoy an afternoon at the football.

WHY NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL MATTERS

Non-league clubs sit at the heart of their communities. They are run by volunteers, supported by local businesses, and followed by supporters who often know the players personally. There are no corporate boxes or huge TV deals — just football in its purest form, played for the love of the game.

That is why Non-League Day has become such an important date in the calendar.

It reminds people that football exists far beyond the Premier League, and that some of the best experiences the game has to offer can be found at grounds like Lowfield. For Hoddesdon Town, the hope is that anyone who visits on Saturday will enjoy the day so much that they come back again.

Club Chairman Stuart Varney commented today 'Non-League Day is always a fantastic occasion for clubs like ours, and we wanted to do something special this year to really encourage people to come down to Lowfield and experience what football at this level is all about.

The idea of ‘pay what you want’ at the gate reflects the spirit of non-league football — it’s about community, accessibility, and making sure everyone feels welcome. On top of that, we’re extremely grateful to our sponsors Greene King for supporting the day by providing the free pints of Level Head, which we know will go down very well with supporters.

We’re expecting a great atmosphere, a good crowd, and a competitive game against Coggeshall Town, so I’d encourage anyone with a free Saturday afternoon to come along, enjoy the day, and support your local non-league club.'
