Blue Gallagher was the standout performer at Lowfield on Saturday afternoon as the midfielder collected the Greene King Level Head Man of the Match award following Hoddesdon Town’s convincing 4-0 victory over Allenburys Sports in the Herts Senior Centenary Trophy.
On a wet and blustery afternoon when conditions made flowing football difficult, Gallagher produced exactly the sort of composed and influential display that has become increasingly familiar to Hoddesdon supporters. He was involved from the very beginning, won possession repeatedly in midfield, drove the Lilywhites forward and played a decisive role in three of the four goals.

His contribution began after only nine minutes when his accurately delivered corner was met by Connor Bolton, whose header was eventually awarded as the opening goal after Jack Orchard had also been involved in the scramble. It was the first sign that Gallagher’s set-piece delivery was going to cause Allenburys problems throughout the afternoon.
Then came the moment of the match.
With 34 minutes played, Gallagher picked up possession outside the penalty area and unleashed a superb long-range strike which flew towards the top-right corner, clipped the inside of the post and nestled in the net. It was a spectacular finish and the sort of goal worthy of deciding any Man of the Match debate on its own.
Blue was not finished there. His delivery from another corner late in the contest was met by Jack Orchard, who powered home Hoddesdon’s fourth goal to put the finishing touches on an excellent afternoon for Simon Riddle’s side.

CONSISTENCY THAT CAN SOMETIMES BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED
Gallagher’s importance to Hoddesdon goes considerably beyond one outstanding performance.
The statistics underline just how dependable he has been since becoming a regular fixture in the side. The club’s recorded figures show 31 appearances in 2023/24, 32 in 2024/25 and 40 last season, while he has already reached 18 appearances in 2026/27 on the current statistics page, making Saturday’s goal and performance an additional contribution to another highly consistent campaign.
Across those seasons, Blue has become one of the first names supporters expect to see on the teamsheet. His ability to win possession, move the ball quickly and provide quality from dead-ball situations may not always produce the most obvious headlines, but Saturday demonstrated just how influential those qualities can be.

Club Treasurer Peter Checkley, who presented Gallagher with his Greene King Level Head Man of the Match award in the clubhouse after the final whistle, summed up that consistency perfectly.
“Blue consistently plays so well for us that it’s sometimes easy to see his excellent performances as ‘just normal’. He was so sharp in midfield today though; nicking the ball back and turning it into another attacking move. His delivery from corners is spot on and his goal today was a lovely piece of work.”

Peter added that the conditions made Gallagher’s display even more impressive.
“It wasn’t an easy afternoon to play football. It was wet, windy and difficult, but Blue seemed to read the game really well throughout. He kept getting us moving in the right direction and was involved in so many of the important moments. It was a very easy decision when it came to the award.”
BLUE: “I JUST TRY TO DO MY JOB FOR THE TEAM”
Gallagher himself was delighted to receive the recognition.
“It’s always nice to get Man of the Match, especially when you’ve won the game and got through to the next round,” said Blue. “The conditions weren’t great, so we knew it was going to be about doing the basics properly, moving the ball quickly when we could and making sure we matched their work rate.”
His spectacular first-half strike certainly gave him a moment to enjoy.
“As soon as it left my foot it felt good. I saw a bit of space and just thought I’d hit it, and luckily it went in off the post. I don’t get too many from that sort of distance, so I’ll definitely take that one!”

Gallagher was equally pleased with the quality Hoddesdon showed from set pieces, with two goals arriving from his corner deliveries.
“We work on those situations and when you’ve got people attacking the ball like Connor and Jack, you just have to put it into a good area. It’s always nice to contribute with assists, but the main thing is that we kept another clean sheet, scored four and are into the next round.”
Saturday’s display was another reminder of the value Gallagher brings to the Lilywhites, combining industry, technique and reliability with the ability to produce a moment of genuine quality when required.
Hoddesdon Town would once again like to thank Greene King and Level Head IPA for their continued sponsorship of the club’s Man of the Match award and their ongoing support of the Lilywhites.

Congratulations, Blue — another excellent performance, even by your very high standards.
