In
another demonstration of reconciliation between the two sports clubs
based at Lowfield, the Football and Cricket clubs fought out their
differences in a friendly manner on the golf course at Cheshunt Park
last Friday, in the newly inaugurated Lowfield Golf Challenge Trophy. A
full day of two rounds of golf was enjoyed by eight members of the
Cricket Club and nine from the Football Club, and we are delighted to
report that the Trophy put up by Football Club Chairman, Roger Merton,
was won by his own finely honed team of golfers. Having won the morning
session 2.5 to 1.5 the FC's team put in an equally impressive
performance in the afternoon and came out on top 5-3.
The
Football Club's team of crack golfers also won three of the four
individual prizes on offer for the day.
After a
hard day's golf the two teams and several guests from both clubs enjoyed
an excellent roast meal in the Cheshunt Park clubhouse. Roger Merton
presented the individual prizes to the winning players, and the
magnificent Challenge Trophy was accepted on behalf of the Football Club
by Neil Conner. Roger paid tribute to the younger element of both clubs
for initiating the unique occasion which, he hoped, would now be
repeated for many years to come.
The
Football Club was represented by: Neil Conner, Paul Evitt, Paul Mann,
Peter Priddis, Phil Maybury (morning only), Jimmy Eastwood, Jon Dean,
Tony Neilson and Adam.
